Two-Pole and Four-Pole Options:

Overcurrent Protection:

RCBOs incorporate a thermal-magnetic tripping mechanism similar to MCBs. When an overcurrent occurs, the thermal element heats up, causing the bimetallic strip to bend and trip the circuit. For short circuits, the magnetic element reacts instantaneously, creating a strong magnetic field that triggers the tripping mechanism.

Residual Current Protection:

RCBOs utilize a sensitive core balance transformer to continuously monitor the current flowing through the live and neutral conductors. When a residual current is detected, a small current is induced in the sensing coil, which activates a relay to trip the RCBO and disconnect the circuit.

AC Type:

Sensitive to pure sinusoidal AC residual currents.

A Type:

Sensitive to both sinusoidal AC residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents.

B Type:

Sensitive to sinusoidal AC residual currents, pulsating DC residual currents, and smooth DC residual currents. Tripping values are defined up to 1kHz.

• Number of Poles: This corresponds to the number of live conductors protected by the RCBO (e.g., 1p+N for single-phase, 3p+N for three-phase).
• Rated Current (In): The maximum current the RCBO can handle continuously without tripping.
• Rated Residual Current (I∆n): The sensitivity of the RCBO, determining the level of residual current that will activate a trip.

• Tripping Characteristic: This defines the response time of the overcurrent protection mechanism, typically categorized as B or C curves. B curve RCBOs are more sensitive and suitable for protecting sensitive electronic equipment. C curve RCBOs are designed for circuits with higher inrush currents, such as those with motors.
• Rated Short-Circuit Capacity: This indicates the maximum short-circuit current the RCBO can safely interrupt.
• Type of Residual Current: The specific form of residual current the RCBO is designed to detect (AC, A, B).
